Doctor James Adams has been practicing surgery of the hand and upper extremity for 39 years. As a member of the American Society of Surgery of the Hand, he has served on the self-assessment committee as well as the coding and reimbursement committee.

Doctor Adams is a native Texan, growing up around the Lubbock area where he graduated from Monterey High School. His undergraduate work was done at Texas Tech where he attained a degree in chemistry, before going to the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Residency was spent at the University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio under the tutelage of Doctors David Green and Charles Rockwood in general orthopedic surgery. Doctor Adams then completed his military obligation at Hill Air Force base in Ogden, Utah. Upon leaving the Air Force, he started his private practice of orthopedic surgery in Ogden. He practiced general orthopedic surgery for 5 years before completing a hand surgery fellowship at Loma Linda University in California with Doctors Virchel Wood and Gary Frickman in 1979-1980. Doctor Adams then returned to Ogden, Utah to establish his hand surgery practice. He attained the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery subspecialty in hand surgery during these practice years and continues to maintain this certification.

His hobbies and personal interests include skiing, marathon running, scuba diving, underwater photography, cycling, yoga and wine education.
