Dr. SHUMAILA SARFANI
Board-certified & fellowship-trained Foot & Ankle orthopedic specialist
Dr. Sarfani is a fellowship-trained Foot and Ankle orthopedic specialist. A native of San Antonio, she received her bachelor’s degree at Rice University in Houston, Texas where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and President’s Honor Roll. She then travelled to Rochester, Minnesota as 1 of only 48 in the country to complete her medical school training at the Mayo Clinic. After completing her orthopedic surgery residency at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee she subspecialized in Foot and Ankle surgery at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee.
She has presented and published research in many areas including outcomes in total ankle replacement, internal fixation of Charcot arthropathy, and improvement of the delivery and quality of care to patients in the orthopedic setting. Over the years she has received awards including the Resident Scholar Award for the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, Mary K. and Cyprus Award for Women in Orthopedics, and the Master Teacher Award at Vanderbilt University.
Dr. Sarfani is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society. Her interests in Foot and Ankle are wide and include trauma, arthritis and total ankle replacement, sports related injuries, deformity and complex foot reconstructions, Achilles and other tendon disorders, bunions and forefoot, minimally invasive surgery, cartilage restoration and arthroscopy, and the diabetic foot.
